Special Educational Needs

Lurgan Junior High has an excellent reputation for meeting the needs of pupils with a wide variety of Special Educational Needs, including ASD, ADHD, ADD, SpLD, DCD and SEBD. Mrs Moorehead is the SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator). She, along with her team of Classroom Assistants, ensures provision is made, whether it is exam concessions, or one-to-one support.

Pupils who have a full statement of educational needs may have a Classroom Assistant provided through EA funding. Mrs Moorehead liaises with feeder primary schools to make provision for SEN pupils who are transferring from Key Stage 2, and then with the senior schools to ensure a smooth transition to Key Stage 4. Pupils on the SEN register have IEPs with individual targets, reviewed twice a year.

Pupils not on the register but requiring additional support are also identified through standardized testing, teacher observations and parental concerns. Mrs Moorehead will meet with parents to discuss a plan and place the pupil on the SEN register with an IEP in order to monitor progress and provide appropriate support.
