Why Study ICT?

The ICT Department is a vibrant hub of digital learning, designed to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge needed to navigate the ever-evolving world of technology. We foster a creative and engaging learning environment where students develop their computational thinking and problem-solving abilities through a range of exciting and relevant topics. Empowering students to become confident and capable users of technology, ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities of the digital age.

Our curriculum is carefully structured to provide a solid foundation in core ICT concepts. Students embark on a journey of discovery, starting with the fundamentals of digital literacy and progressing to more complex areas.

Beyond these core areas, the department also covers a range of other essential ICT topics, including digital safety and online responsibility and the use of various software applications. We strive to ensure that our students are not only technically proficient but also responsible and informed digital citizens.

A key focus is programming, where students learn the fundamentals of Python, a versatile language used in various industries, including game development. This empowers them to create their own programs and understand the logic behind software development.

Website design forms another significant strand, enabling students to explore the principles of web development and build their own websites. They learn about HTML, CSS, gaining practical experience in creating engaging and functional online content.

Students explore the principles of game design, including level design and storytelling. They have the opportunity to use GameMaker to create their own simple games, developing their creativity, problem-solving skills, and understanding of game development processes. This hands-on experience allows them to bring their ideas to life and experience the challenges and rewards of game creation.

Outside the classroom, our pupils are afforded the opportunity of attending a range of computing and careers events including the Festival of Pay, Steam Studio and Bring IT on. These events focus on upskilling students in coding and showcasing the range of careers available in the computing industry.
