Year 9 pupil, Catherine, continues our Musical Christmas Countdown today with a beautiful instrumental of ‘What a friend we have in Jesus.’ Catherine’s performance reminds us that no matter what challenges we face this Christmas, Jesus is our friend, our comforter and our burden-bearer. The lyrics of this hymn are based on a poem by Irishman, Joseph Scriven, and are as poignant today as the day they were written.
What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry

Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?

Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
